Five organizations with concurrent needs are coming together in the heart of Kearns. US Speedskating needs a permanent home with state-of-the-art training facilities to remain competitive. Kearns Oquirrh Park Fitness Center’s (KOPFC) fitness area is bursting at the seams. Salt Lake County is looking to optimize the Kearns campus for the benefit of the community. The Utah Olympic Legacy Foundation wants Utah to be a global model for winter sports training.
Given these synchronized opportunities, the proximity of the Utah Olympic Oval and the KOPFC offers a unique opportunity to connect, creating exponential benefits that the individual stakeholders couldn’t achieve on their own.
With support from Salt Lake County and the State of Utah, the new facility will encourage the cross-pollination of youth and public training alongside Olympians with US Speedskating’s elite athlete training facilities directly across the lobby from the expanded KOPFC fitness area. New meeting and conference spaces will expose event-goers from all over the world to this active and dynamic campus, featuring views of the surrounding mountains and the inspiring US Speedskating Hall of Fame. The Kearns community will come together for public gatherings and festivities in the improved community plaza.
The inspiring new Kearns Athlete Training & Event Center will truly welcome the world.
Please be advised that the main plaza area between the Utah Olympic Oval and Kearns Oquirrh Park Fitness Center (KOPFC) will be under construction beginning May 2017 through late summer 2018.
