Team USA Earns Key Win Over Canada as Semifinal Race Tightens in Ogden

Team USA had a strong 9-3 victory over Team Canada at the LGT World Men’s Curling Championship on Sunday at Weber County Ice Sheet.
Led by Olympic champion John Shuster, Team USA came out with confidence and control, putting early pressure on Canada and never letting up. The Americans scored two in the opening end, added another deuce in the third, and broke the game open with a four-point fifth end to secure the win in seven ends. The result marked an important bounce-back performance for the U.S. squad as it continues its push in a highly competitive field.
While the win over Canada was a significant moment for Team USA, the road ahead remains critical. The American team and its Olympians are still battling to climb the standings and keep their semifinal hopes alive as round-robin play continues. Every game from here carries major weight as the team works toward qualification and the chance to compete for a medal on home ice.
The championship field remains tightly packed behind unbeaten Sweden, making each result increasingly important. With more opportunities still ahead, Team USA remains in the hunt and focused on building momentum as the week continues in Ogden.
How Curling Is Scored
Curling is scored by end, which is similar to an inning. After all 16 stones are thrown in an end, only one team can score. The team with the stone closest to the center of the house earns one point for each of its stones that is closer to the button than the other team’s nearest stone. Teams can score multiple points in a single end, but only one team scores per end. The team with the highest total score after 10 ends wins the game.
