OGDEN, Utah — Team USA, led by Olympic gold medalist John Shuster, has officially qualified for the playoffs at the LGT World Men’s Curling Championship in Ogden after a dramatic 9–7 victory over Norway in 11 ends. The win secured the United States a place in the tournament’s top six and advanced the team to the championship round. Official standings show Team USA at 7–3 and in sixth place after the win.

In a hard-fought match, Team USA and Norway were tied at the conclusion of 10 ends before Team USA pulled ahead in the 11th. The result was especially significant because it came in a must-win moment for the United States as the playoff race tightened heading into the championship round.

“This is an exciting moment for Team USA and a great opportunity for Ogden to show up in the way we always do,” said Sara Toliver, Visit Ogden President/CEO. “Competing for a playoff spot on home ice at the world championship is something special, and we hope the community will come out, bring the energy, and support Team USA as they continue this incredible run.”

Team USA’s advancement adds to the excitement of an already thrilling week at the LGT World Men’s Curling Championship, where fans in Ogden have had the opportunity to watch Olympic-caliber athletes and many of the world’s best teams compete at Weber County Ice Sheet. With a playoff spot now secured, the United States will continue its run with a chance to compete for a place on the podium.
